Town Board Meeting April 14, 2008

The Town Board met on April 14, 2008. Councilman Gary Phelps was absent. Because he was not able to be there, the Executive Session, which had been scheduled to take place immediately preceding the meeting has been postponed.

During his Supervisor’s Update, Peter Dolan announced that floatation devices have been installed in the Indian Kill Reservoir in preparation for the laying of the pipeline, which he expects will happen in the next day or two. He also informed the public that electricity has now been installed at Tichy Field. There is power in the restrooms (powering the organic toilet and organic urinal) as well as the “snack shack” and an electronic scoreboard has been installed. This effort was spearheaded by Paul Di Paolo. The final announcement was a reminder of the Chamber of Commerce’s Clean Sweep, which will take place on Saturday starting at 9:00 am.

Resolutions were passed to appoint Daniel J. Sutherland as a Full-Time Police Officer and to confirm Permanent Appointment of Police Officer Brandon King. Resolutions were also passed giving permission for the Library to hold their annual Community Picnic on Memorial Day and to place their petition for taxes on the ballot.

The American Legion is going out of existence and according to their deed their building in Southfields will revert to Town ownership. There was some discussion with Attorney Don Nichols about steps to be taken before the Town takes possession of the building. The County Board of Elections has requested that the Town move the polling place for Election District 2 (Sterling Forest and Southfields) from the American Legion Hall to the Town Hall. After some discussion, the resolution to do this was tabled as the Board wants to explore every option for keeping this polling place within the District. It was suggested that the Town check with the Sterling Forest Fire Department to see if the polling place could be located there.

The Board passed a special sign permit for Taverna Tuxedo which will be good for 6 months starting April 15, 2008. The 3’ X 5’ signs will announce “Now Open for Business – serving lunch and dinner.”
