Taverna Tuxedo is open for business! After many months of local anticipation, the restaurant/bar finally opened its doors on April 21 with one small hitch…no liquor license. This minor setback hasn’t stopped the steady stream of curious (and hungry) locals from venturing inside however. So what exactly is on the other side of that brand new door?
Those patrons familiar with The Tuxedo Junction/McMullen’s may be surprised to encounter a hostess standing right inside the door but upon venturing further inside will discover that the dining room has been given a cheery facelift. Shiny wooden floors give way to smooth beige walls and a white ceiling. Large wooden frames have been built into the far wall just above 4 new booths, tastefully integrating the historical murals into the new decor.
The wall dividing the dining area from the bar has been cleaned up, repainted and slightly altered. New stools line the refurbished bar and the entrance to the kitchen has been moved from the west side of building to the east.
The staff is both friendly and eager to please. Service is pleasant and efficient.
The restaurant’s style has been described as Italian/Mediterranean fusion and the extensive menu has something to please everyone. From classics like wings and pizza to an artichoke-based bruchetta and filet mignon, the portions are hefty and the food is delicious. For the little ones there is a children’s menu complete with all the classics (and a pile of highchairs stacked in the corner). Desert options are somewhat limited but yummy none-the-less; crème brulee and tiramisu stand out among a list that includes New York style cheesecake with whipped cream, fresh fruit and ice cream.
Prices are both moderate and reasonable.
With good food and a family friendly atmosphere, Taverna Tuxedo is definitely a welcome addition to town. TPFYI heartily encourages everyone to stop by and give it a try.
